Greene King is to help pub-goers quit smoking as the start of the English smoking ban approaches.

Posters advertising NiQuitin gum, patches and lozenges will be going up in the bar area and toilets of 750 Greene King managed pubs. There are also plans to roll out tent cards advertising the products into the tenanted estate.

The posters will also point customers to where they can find advice on kicking the habit.

Greene King Pub Partners managing director David Elliott said: "The smoking ban is going to have a tremendous impact on pub life in the UK and we are determined to ensure our pubs welcome smokers and non-smokers alike. We are investing in new outside areas because some people will still want to smoke but for those who want to use the ban as an incentive to give up we are intent on helping them too. The partnership with NiQuitin will provide support for all our pub-going smokers.

"We already have a staff incentive in place to help our staff who smoke give up and the NiQuitin partnership now extends that to customers."
