Life after the smoking ban

Graham Allman, MD of GA-Select

Just been to a local pub which has been non-smoking since a year before last Easter; it was very busy and 50% up on sales of one year ago. No one moaning, everyone enjoying their Sunday in a lovely, traditional English pub. Smashing.

Sandra Dale, Essex bar manager

I work in a wet pub where we do not sell food. Sunday lunchtimes are normally heaving, but the first day of the ban we had just two non-smokers in, then two regulars had one drink and left to go to the off-licence to buy some beers to take home so they could have a ciggie with them. Where are all these non-smokers? If this is anything to go by I will be out of a job before long.

John Gillman, Somerset licensee

Well, as promised, first day and all that. Lunchtime, loads of unhappy punters were in rotation out to the patio and back to the bar, more out than in at any one time!

Gary Newman, Avon lessee

Usually got 30-40 people in. Now at 2.15pm, Sunday, 1 July, only got 10!
