What do customers think of the smoking ban?
Paul Conway, 42, IT consultant
³I have noticed the cleaner atmosphere in a spit and sawdust pub near me.² Julian Heart, 36, IT consultant ³For me it¹s great, the smoking ban. I think it¹ll encourage me to stop. The only problem I have is if I¹m around people and having a drink outside, I might just give in.²
Alan Eagle, 34, station controller.
³I went to one pub and I was with someone who was smoking, so she had to go outside. She wasn¹t pleased.²
Julie Walker, 31, clerical officer.
³When it first came in loads of pubs were very quiet, I noticed that. I always sat in no-smoking areas anyway, but now it seems pubs are more sociable. There¹s so many people who don¹t smoke, but because there¹s that small minority who do smoke, they used to take over.²
Steve Jackson, 36, civil servant.
³The thing I¹ve noticed is the amount of people sat out on the street. A lot of people are going outside pubs and restaurants. I¹m very happy, I think it¹s long overdue.²
Dave Wilson, 36, civil servant.
³Until recently I¹ve been a smoker. If you¹d asked me 18 months ago, I would have said Œbloody hell, it¹s going to be a nightmare¹. But you don¹t want to come back from somewhere smelling of smoke.²
