Two pubs have been voted Local Food Heroes and will appear on UKTV Food.

The Hare 'n' Hounds in St Albans, Hertfordshire, and the Feathers Inn at Hedley on the Hill, Northumberland, are regional finalists in the competition, voted for by the public.

The 11-part series called Local Food Hero will feature six winners from ten UK regions. Five winners have already been announced but consumers still have a chance to vote for a wildcard winner.

The Hare 'n' Hounds is in the top five finalists from Anglia.

Licensee and chef Rohan Gordon said: "This is a great result for us and a great tribute from our customers. We buy all our food locally, it is put together by a great chef and the customers seem to think we have all the right ingredients."

Gordon takes the pub's restored Land Rover round local farms each day to buy meat and vegetables. He has also found an organic baker who mills his own flour and who now provides fresh bread for the pub.

Gary Rhodes will be hosting the TV show and wildcard votes can be cast until 20 August. For more information visit www.uktv.co.uk/food
