An impressive board of industry groups has been created to take Best Bar None (BBN) to its next phase of development.

Now under the wing of the BII (British Institute of Innkeeping), the pub and club accreditation scheme is to be chaired by a "high-profile peer". All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group secretary Robert Humphreys is to be vice-chairman.

Members of the new BBN board are: the British Beer & Pub Association, the BII, the Bar Entertainment & Dance Association, the Association of Licensed Multiple Retail-ers, the Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations and National Pubwatch.

Other members include: the Home Office, the Department for Culture, Media & Sport, local government co-ordinator Lacors, the Association of Chief Police Officers, Greater Manchester Police and the Metropolitan Police.

The Home Office has provided funding for the next two years.

To help ensure consistency in judging standards, the BII is to develop a new national qualification for assessors. This year, 75 towns and cities are running BBN awards schemes.
