In time for British and Scottish Food Fortnights, supplier Brakes has launched a new Best of British website.
The website offers pubs British recipe suggestions as well as a webcasts section with easy to follow dishes, and hints and tips from Brakes development chef Neil Smith. A support section also offers ideas on menu planning.
Brakes has also added to its range of local, regionally produced food, as well as fish, meat and poultry from the UK.
This includes a ready prepared individual Toad in the Hole - a large Yorkshire pudding filled with three British sausages.
Also available are British rump steaks, and British ribeye steak. As a classic accompaniment, Brakes has introduced British Maris Piper Dual Store Beefsteak Fries - a chip par-fried in sunflower oil to keep it lower in saturated fat than standard fries.
A British product which can be traced right back to the boat it came in on is Brakes butterfly sardine fillets, caught by Cornish fisherman off Mounts Bay, Newlyn.
Brakes Premiere Individual Bramley Apple & Sultana Pie is made from selected British apples, lightly spiced with cinnamon mixed with sugar and sultanas to create a fresh, tart pie filling in a butter-enriched pastry.
Scottish Food Fortnight started on September 1 and runs until September 16. British Food Fortnight runs from September 22 to October 7.
