JDW appoints former Tesco director
JD Wetherspoon has announced that Keith Down will replace Jim Clarke as its finance director

JD Wetherspoon (JDW) has announced that Keith Down will replace Jim Clarke as its finance director.

Down, who is currently commercial finance director at Tesco, will take up his new role on 9 January next year.

He has spent four years at Tesco, after joining the supermarket chain when it acquired convenience store group T&S Stores, where he was director of financial operations.

Clarke, who announced he was leaving JDW in June after 10 years with the business, plans to join private equity-owned property firm Countrywide at the end of this month.

He will be taking a private equity stake in Countrywide, which owns 47 different estate agency brands, and hopes to combine its previously fragmented property service offer into a unified entity.

John Hutson, chief executive of JDW, said: "I am delighted to welcome Keith to JDW's executive team. He brings with him a considerable amount of relevant experience and I look forward to working with him in taking the company to the next stage of its development."
