Pubs are being encouraged to revive the classic cheese and port occasion with a new promotion from Beam Global UK, owner of the Cockburn's brand.

Beam is giving away cheeseboards to any outlet with an exclusive pouring deal with Cockburn's.

The branded boards are designed to hold enough cheese for two people, with a special indent to allow space for a port glass or 37.5cl half bottle. On ordering a cheeseboard for two, customers receive a half bottle of port.

The promotion is already running at selected pubs and restaurants. Fran Bracken, owner of Murray's, a seafood restaurant on the Isle of Wight, has been running the cheeseboard promotion for two months:

"We used to sell around one and a half bottles every six months" she said, "but with the promotion, we've sold 17 half bottles in six weeks. We've had to order further cheeseboards to cater for the high demand.

"Running the cheeseboard promotion is a great way of encouraging customers to stay in your outlet for longer. We also give customers the bottle stopper, to enable them to take any remaining port home."
