MA's Protz honoured at Guild awards
Celebrated beer writer and Morning Advertiser columnist Roger Protz has picked up an award at the Guild of Beer Writers Annual Awards.
He received a silver award in the National Journalism category, specifically for his articles in the Morning Advertiser, Camra's What's Brewing magazine and Beers of the World.
Protz said: "It's a great honour to receive the award. I'm absolutely thrilled."
Alastair Gilmour, who writes for Newcastle's Journal, among other titles, received the Beer Writer of the Year Award, having won it in 1998, 2000 and 2005.
Last year's winner and chairman of the judges Ben McFarland said: "Alastair is an exceptional talent."
Mother-and-son team Fiona and Will Beckett won the Bishops Finger Beer with Food Award for Beer and Food Writing for An Appetite for Ale.
British Guild of Beer Writers chairman Tim Hampson, said: "The book is at the forefront of the beer and food revolution.
MA contributor Adrian Tierney-Jones was awarded the John White Travel Bursary, while Off Licence News features editor Christine Boggis was runner-up in the trade and technical section.
