A Walsall licensee has won £10,000 after finding a lucky 'golden ticket' in a carton of Benson & Hedges.

Five golden tickets had been placed cartons of Benson & Hedges Gold 20's, to offer retailers the chance to win the cash prizes.

John Prior, licensee of the Crown and Anchor, who stocks the cigarettes in his pub, found the ticket after purchasing the carton from his local Cash and Carry.

He plans to use the money to improve his outside smoking area.

"When I opened up the outer and saw the ticket I couldn't believe my eyes," said Prior.

"I am planning on re-investing the money in the pub so that I can improve my business and give something back to my loyal customers - one idea is to improve my smoking area outside."

Gallaher Limited, which owns the Benson & Hedges brand, launched the competition last November 2007.

As well as planting the golden tickets in cartons, the company also offered retailers the chance to win £1m by entering a six digit code to try and open a safe at the company.
