Northern brewer Daniel Thwaites has celebrated its bi-centennial year by raising more than £110,000 for charity.

Over the last 12 months staff took part in a range of events and activities in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

And now all the cash from the race nights, auctions, quiz nights and sponsored runs has been presented to the charity.

To celebrate the impressive amount raised, Thwaites recently hosted an official ceremony at its Blackburn based brewery - with former Emmerdale star Claire King in attendance to lend her support.

Thwaites' marketing executive Christine Robinson said: "The British Heart Foundation helps so many people in so many different ways but it is wonderful to be able to support a charity that has personally helped our friends and colleagues here at Thwaites.

"Early last year we pledged to raise £25,000 for the charity but the support from everyone, including Claire, made it clear that we would far exceed this figure."

The money raised will be used for research, patient care and to provide vital information to help people reduce their own risk of dying prematurely from a heart or circulatory related illness.

Penny Hamer, corporate partnerships manager for the BHF, said: "I am absolutely staggered and thrilled with the amount of money that has been raised."
