Corrie star's pub in administration
Coronation Street star Bev Callard has told how hard life as a licensees really is as she revealed a £218,000 debt.
Callard, who plays Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald, said her operating company BJ Lesiure went into administration in March.
She revealed she had defaulted on bank payments for the £32,000 Frederic Robinson lease at the White Horse in Eccles, Manchester and the £60,000 lease of the upmarket Gallery bar in Hale, Cheshire.
Callard said they had made mistakes such as pitching the menus too upmarket and spending too much on refurbishing the venues but she also blames the Government.
She has written to Gordon Brown to invite him to discuss the problems at the Gallery bar.
"Going bankrupt would have been the easy thing to do because everything gets written off and we could have started again," she told News of the World.
"But we don't want to give up. It will be tough but we can make this pub work. The Gallery is a brilliant pub and trade is building.
"We are taking £14,000 a week - enough to break even and keep up with the payments.
"The White Horse has gone into administration."
