There still time for tne pub trade's best chefs to enter the running for the year's 'chef's Oscars' - the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards 2009.

The closing date for nominations for Pub Restaurant Chef of the Year is this Friday, February 27.

Organisers are looking for a successor to follow in the footsteps of last year's winner, Sussex chef Matt Van Wyck, chef patron of the Rose and Crown in Mayfield.

Matt was recognised after transforming his pub into what the judges called "an oasis of cooked-to-order local produce".

Nick Vadis, chairman of the Craft Guild, said the aim is to put exceptional pub chefs in the spotlight. "Last year's champion was a shining example of a master of his trade and we need to find a pub chef who can fill his shoes."

In all, the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards 2009 covers 13 categories including Pub Restaurant Chef, as well a special award for an overall industry high-flyer.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Hilton on Park Lane on June 1.
