In support of British Pie Week, Wadworth is running a competition in its managed houses, with resident chefs asked to create a new pie recipe.
Each pub will feature the bespoke pie on its menu during the first two weeks of March, which includes British Pie Week from March 2 to March 8. All will be checked out by a series of mystery visits throughout the promotion.
The top three will go through to a final round cook-off at the end of the month.
Recipes entered include chorizo and chuck steak pie from the Trumpet Inn at Ledbury, Herts, and raised chicken, sausagemeat and lemon and thyme Pie", from the Millstone in Basingstoke, Hampshire.
As well as the recipe, pubs will be judged on the smell, presentation and delivery.
Scott Ferguson, food development manager at Wadworth, said: "We are continually looking at ways to encourage both managed and tenanted houses to promote themselves, and we're delighted to see so many of them take up the challenge.
"Not only does this competition help to support British Pie Week activities, it also gives locals a reason to pay a pub a visit and will hopefully drive footfall."
Alongside the pie competition, Wadworth is running a dessert challenge, with entries so far including almond, amaretto and marzipan bread & butter pudding from the George Inn at Norton St Phillip, near Bath and chocolate cola cake from the Barge Inn at Seend.
