Italian lager Peroni Nastro Azzuro has continued to be a star performer in the UK for brewer SABMiller, the group said today.
Announcing a trading update for the three months to the end of December last year, SABMiller said overall volume growth in the UK was in line with that reported at the half year mark back in November, in other words around 15 per cent, helped along by Peroni.
The growth, in what was the brewer's third quarter, came from both on and off trade markets, it added.
SABMiller is meanwhile set to introduce a new brand into the UK sometime this year, said a spokesman.
"We are deliberating as to which product to bring in. It will be one of our well-known international brands, but we are not saying which ones it might be at the moment," he added.
SABMiller said it had seen consumer demand vary across its global markets, "with some showing signs of recovery, whilst in others demand remained subdued".
