A Labour MP has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) supporting the British Beer and Pub Association's (BBPA) "I'm Backing the Pub" campaign.

The I'm Backing the Pub campaign aims to promote the positive aspects of the pub, lower tax and burdens on pubs and beer and restrict new legislation in favour of enforcing existing laws more effectively.

MP for Selby, North Yorkshire John Grogan noted that "pubs lie at the social heart of communities across the country, employ more than half a million people across the UK and provide an important contribution to national income".

Grogan called for the Government, industry and local authorities to "work together to support a quintessentially British institution and Britain's national drink as part of efforts to enhance community life and promote economic recovery".
