Mulholland: Government needs strategy to save pubs

Campaigning MP Greg Mulholland has called for a "serious" strategy across different Government departments to save the pub.
The All-Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group chairman also has asked the Leader of the House, Sir George Young, for a debate in Parliament on the future of the pub.
The action mark the start of Great British Pub Week - Mulholland has written to every pub in his Leeds North West constituency urging them to take part in event.
He said: "With British Pub week due to begin next week and already doing a great job of raising awareness of the importance of community pubs and the state of the industry I thought this was an ideal time to raise the issue.
"We need a sensible approach from Government on the issues affecting pubs and now is the perfect time to raise it because British pub week has put the matter at the front of everyone's minds.
"I also called upon all Honourable and Right Honourable Members to show their support by visiting local pubs during BPW and joining the Save the Pub Group.
"I was pleased with Sir Young's response, he praised the work we have been doing and assured me he didn't think there would be much trouble in encouraging MPs and Lords to visit the pub."
