David Cameron has promised to visit a pub during British Pub Week — and said he wants the Coalition to be a "pub-friendly Government".

Save the Pub Group chair Greg Mulholland MP raised the subject at Prime Minister's Questions this afternoon.

Cameron said: "I'm a big supporter of British pubs. I want us to be a pub-friendly Government."

The Prime Minister has a pub visit planned sometime this week, but declined to name the venue.

Cameron said he's "looking forward to it" but added: "I can't tell you which one it is otherwise it will be discontinued."

Mulholland commented: "It is always great to get a chance to speak at Prime Minister's Questions and this week was the perfect occasion to ask the Prime Minister to support the British pub industry.

"The response I got from the Prime Minister was very positive and displays this Government's commitment to preserving the British pub.

"I hope everyone at home will follow the Prime Ministers example and support a local pub during British Pub Week."

Yesterday around 50 MPs and peers celebrated the launch of British Pub Week in a reception at the Red Lion on Parliament Square.
