Bulmers and Strongbow producer Heineken UK is adding about 7p per pint to the wholesale prices of its cider brands from 10 January.

A statement from the company, which also owns Woodpecker, Jacques and Scrumpy Jack, said: "Heineken UK will apply price changes to its cider products, which will come into effect from Monday 10 January 2011.

"Heineken UK last increased its cider prices in January 2010 and has continued to honour a commitment to restrict price increases to once per calendar year.

"Increases in our listed wholesale prices will average at around 7p per pint for cider and will be applied to both draught and packaged products.

"Our annual pricing review takes into account a number of factors including increased input costs to us, many of which have risen over the rate of inflation; relative pricing to competitors and increased brand investment."

The rises will take place days after VAT increases from 17.5% to 20% on 4 January.

Heineken has become the first major producer to reveal its New Year price rise for next year, with others expected to follow in the next few weeks.
