Eleven brewers have brewed their best stouts to take part in a five-week journey to Russia that has not been completed for 200 years.
Organiser Tim O'Rourke of Brilliant Beer has chartered a £35,000 60-foot former round the world Clipper boat called Thermopylae to make the Ale for Sail 2011 trip.
The Great Baltic Adventure, will set off from London on 15 May and arrive in St Petersburg on 18 June where the Russian Imperial Stouts will be tasted and a winner announced.
Eleven British breweries have signed up so far with more expected to follow suit.
There will be stopovers every Friday to Saturday in a major city to change crew including Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki. Fifty sailors are needed in total.
