Wells and Young's has issued a recall on beer bottles produced since 4 January over quality fears.

The Bedfordshire-based brewer has taken the precautionary step due to a quality issue, which could result in small fragments of glass being found in a small number of bottles.

"There have been no reports from consumers and this was identified by our internal quality checks," it said.

Jim Robertson, production director said: "Through our rigorous commitment to quality, our internal control system has highlighted an issue affecting our glass bottles.

"As a precautionary measure and standard procedure, we have taken the decision to recall the stock which is potentially affected.

"The risk of glass in bottles is extremely low, however consumer safety is our number one priority and that is why we have made this decision."
