Byron, the chain of up-market burger restaurants, is set to open in Putney, after taking a new lease from Enterprise Inns on the current Rump Kitchen site.

The chain, which is led by managing director Tom Byng, has taken a new 15-year lease on the unit on Putney High Street, which was formerly the Idle Hour pub, on a rent of £63,000 pa.

An undisclosed premium was also paid for the 3,600sq ft site to the outgoing operator of Rump. Casey Phillips of Shelley Sandzer, which handled the deal on behalf of Byron, said: "Units in Putney are hard to find, especially units big enough to accommodate one of the branded operators so it is pleasing to have acquired this unit in an off-market deal for Byron."

Byron, which opened its flagship and 14th site this week in London's Haymarket, will also open at the Greenwich Promenade scheme and in Rathbone Place in Soho, before the end of the year.

Byng said the company continued to seek further opportunities in London.
