Safer pint glasses unveiled

Two new safer pint glasses have been launched, following a series of trials by two major suppliers.
The glasses were inspired by the Government's Design Out Crime programme, which challenged the industry to design a glass that would help to make drinking venues a safer environment for customers.
Arc International and Utopia have been working on the various technical challenges of mass-producing safer glasses.
The vessels have been trialled at a number of major pub chains and at a broad spectrum of outlets including sports bars, students' venues and traditional pubs.
Utopia's 'Perfect Pint' glass is designed to shatter into twice as many small pieces of glass as traditional toughened glass to further limit the possibility of glass being used as a weapon.
And Arc International's 'Ultimate Pint' glass, meanwhile, is said to have an increased lifespan of between 10 and 15 times that of a traditional vessel.
