A Suffolk pub has reopened as a steak and seafood house where customers can hand-pick their own dinner.

Louise and David Anthony took on Greene King tenancy the Five Bells in Hesset, Bury St Edmonds, in July last year and began a refurbishment.

An 8ft butcher's counter was installed a month ago, which is filled with a selection of steaks and seafood.

"People come up to the counter and decide how much steak they want," said Louise. "It is all weighed and charged by weight and it is the same with the seafood.

"Steak is by far the most popular dish and we've had comments that we serve the best steak in the country."

Diners are free to choose any size of steak with the smallest so far being 4oz and the largest 19oz. A three-course meal with a drink costs around £25.

The pub seats 32 covers and is usually at capacity during evening service. Louise uses the pub's website to advertise and many customers visit through word of mouth recommendations.
