Carlsberg UK is to increase its wholesale prices by an average 7p a pint from January due to costs.

The brewer has confirmed brands including Carlsberg, Tuborg, Tetley’s, San Miguel and Staropramen will all be affected by the price increase.

Chris Houlton, sales and distribution director, Carlsberg UK, said: “Carlsberg UK has informed customers that prices will be increasing from 9 January 2012. The necessary price increase reflects the rising cost of raw materials, energy and fuel. We are acutely aware of the challenging on-trade market and have absorbed as much cost as possible to remain competitive and ensure the price increase is kept to a minimum.

“We work in partnership with our customers via schemes such as our ‘We Deliver More’ service, which provides customers with category expertise, business drivers and exclusive point of sale for key periods in the pub calendar.

"This service is provided free of charge and every direct supply customer, whether they buy Carlsberg, Tuborg, Tetley’s, San Miguel or Staropramen, can register for access to this."

The Carlsberg news follows that of Molson Coors which recently announced it will be increasing its wholesale prices to the on-trade by, on average, £19.99 per barrel, or 7p per pint from 2 January 2012.
