Eric Cantona is to star in a new ad for Kronenbourg 1664 to be unveiled on 4 February, The PMA can reveal

The French footballer is seen celebrating the “hero hop farmers of Alsace” in the tongue-in-cheek ad, which shows him going unnoticed as the farmers are chased by paparazzi and beautiful women to a soundtrack.

The ad marks the second phase of the “A Taste Suprême” campaign for the brand, which is distributed in the UK by Heineken.

The new slogan was launched last September and marked a shift in marketing approach for the premium beer, which is made with Strisselspalt hops (known as the “caviar of hops”), to promote its provenance and taste credentials.

The previous campaign centred on the idea of the brand as a beer to be savoured slowly.

“Our new ‘A Taste Suprême’   TV campaign is a humorous homage to the farmers in Alsace who nurture the highly-prized Strisselspalt hops that give Kronenbourg 1664 its exceptional taste and aroma,” said Lawson Mountstevens, managing director on-trade at Heineken.
