BII Statutory Code pubco
The British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) supports the introduction of a statutory pubco code but has called for more clarity around its principles.

BII’s code consultation response, which reflects the views of the tenant/lessee members, disagrees with having a threshold of 500 pubs.

It said: “We support the view that should the threshold of 500 pubs or some other threshold be adopted, that those companies who are not bound by the statutory code should sign up to a voluntary code.”

The BII said it remained “concerned” about how the principle that the tied tenant should be no worse off than as free of tie is to be delivered. It favoured the continuation of self-regulation if the code was to be introduced but urged the Department to undertake further research to ensure the intended outcomes can be reached.
