Celebrate: National Chip Week

Cheap as chips
At New Moon Pub Company, chef-director David Mooney will celebrate National Chip Week with plenty of eye-catching ideas at the company’s four Cheshire pubs. Customers will enjoy tin mugs of chips, mushy peas and gravy over the bar for a bargain £1, as well as portions of chips with melted Cheshire cheese or curry sauce.
Pizza-topping chips
Cardiff’s Urban Tap House, owned by Tiny Rebel Pub Company will pull out the stops with hand-cut fries served with home-made pizza toppings, sweet potato chips and chilli chips, alongside home-made beer crisps. Toppings include melted mozzarella & pepperoni, home-made chilli & sour cream, and a gooey four-cheese & herb fondue.
Chips the northern way
On 19 February, the Freemasons at Wiswell in Lancashire is bringing back its popular three-course Chippy Tea. Diners can sample the delights of the morning’s catch from Whitby, North Yorkshire, alongside chips, mushy peas & tartare sauce (£29.95).
Defending champion
Last year’s winner of the UK’s Best Pub/Restaurant Chips for National Chip Week is planning to build on its success. This year, chips at the Crown in Henlow, Bedfordshire, will be sold for the usual £3.25 with three varieties on offer. Customers can choose from chips that are triple-cooked; made with beef dripping; and made with duck fat, or the undecided can sample all three.
