The trade is beginning to really celebrate its successes.

While some brands follow known trends and others team up with talent for partnerships, it’s clear bartenders are really the true stars. If they’re not mixing or pouring incredible drinks, they are gaining national (and in some cases international) acclaim for their skills.

This has been further evidenced by the First Drinks 2015 Disaronno Mixing Star Competition finalists as well as the 2015 Stella Artois World Draught Masters finalists.

The hospitality industry is a great place to learn skills and techniques, but it is also a platform to career progression towards running a venue of your own in the future, or maybe several. However, the role of a person who works in a pub or bar has been underrated for a long time and we need to change that — we need to celebrate achievements.

There are some incredibly talented individuals in the pub and bar sector, who deserve to be recognised and awarded.

We talk rather a lot about tiers of excellence in terms of a company’s portfolio — whether something is a premium brand or not — but people are at the heart of this business and it
is something we must not forget.

Let’s try not to.
