Liberal Democrat MP Greg Mulholland has been unanimously re-elected as the chair of the parliamentary Save the Pub Group.

The group, which met for the first time in the new parliament yesterday, campaigns to preserve and protect British pubs.

The Leeds north west MP said he was ‘honoured’ to regain the role.

I would really like to thank all members of the group for all their hard work in the last parliament, to protect the great British institution that is the local pub. As a group, we have made some very significant strides forward to protect the future of the pub, and I think that we can be quite proud of the campaigns we have won and communities we have stood up for.”

Charlotte Leslie, who is the Conservative MP for Bristol north west and Labour MP Grahame Morris were both elected as vice chairs.

Morris said: “The Save the Pub Group has championed the rights of tenants in the last parliament through the reform of the outdated pubco model and we must continue to be the voice of pubs and publicans. They are the community champions that sustain this industry and I look forward to the work ahead; campaigning to strengthen and promote our fantastic pub and brewing industry.”
