Hawkes cider launch #appledonor campaign

London cider producer Hawkes has launched a new marketing campaign inviting customers to trade apples for cider, called #appledonor.

Apples brought to the Hawkes Cider house will by weighed and then traded for a value of urban Orchard cider.

The idea behind Urban Orchard is to use as many handpicked urban apples in the cider as possible, apples that might typically go to waste, promoting sustainability, fighting against food waste and encouraging local food buying and sourcing.

Hawkes will work in partnership with social enterprise project the Open Orchard, which will help Hawkes plan their orchard next year near Canary Wharf.

Simon Wright, founder of Hawkes, said: “ Our approach to cider making goes well beyond the liquid itself. For us, the people, communities and enterprises behind the apples play an even more important role.

"It’s a privilege to work with these people and see their actions contribute directly back to the cider itself - people really are central to this product. We’re looking forward to a long standing future together with the Open Orchard project and all the apple donors who are contributing their apples this harvest and beyond”
