AB InBev to bid for SABMiller
Anheuser-Busch InBev - the brewer of Budweiser and Stella Artois - has informed SABMiller - which produces Grolsch and Coors among others - it intends to make a proposal to acquire the latter brewing brand in a deal that would make a joint market cap of £162bn.

The announcement of the intended takeover bid to combine two of the largest brewing brands has resulted in both companies share price rising steeply.

SABMiller has responded to speculation and said no proposal has yet been received and its Board has no further details of such a proposal.

SABMiller said: “The Board of SABMiller will review and respond as appropriate to any proposal which might be made. There can be no certainty that an offer will be made or as to the terms on which any offer might be made.”

It has advised shareholders to retain their shares and to take no action.
