TOP 50 GASTROPUBS 2016
2. The Pony & Trap, Chew Magna, Somerset
Josh Eggleton's Somerset pub the Pony & Trap prides itself on not excluding any potential customers, offering a menu of thoughtful, seasonal dishes made with only the finest West Country produce. Eggleton's pub, which he runs alongside sister Holly, was given a Michelin star in 2011, which it has - to no surprise - held on to since then.
Eggleton has become somewhat of a food celebrity in Bristol and the surrounding area over the past few years, acting as a director for the Eat Drink Bristol Fashion festival, opening his own standalone fish & chip shop the Salt & Malt and appearing on this year's Great British Menu.
Sample dishes: Whole plaice with brown shrimp, Tuscan sausage and saffron potatoes, Brown crab risotto with pickled cockles, sweetcorn and coriander, beetroot parfait with sorrel sorbet and autumn fruits.
