The Great Sausage Roll off is back for its fourth year and will be held once again at Fuller’s pub the Red Lion, Barnes on Wednesday, 17 January.

Beer and food writer Melissa Cole will return to host the event, which will see chefs from across the country compete to create the ultimate sausage roll.

Food critic Charles Campion will return as a judge with new additions to the panel including Masterchef 2015 finalist Emma Spitzer, Big Allotment Challenge judge Thane Prince and Tom Kemble, head chef of Mayfair restaurant Bonhams.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Shooting Star Chase, a children’s hospice charity for babies and children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Last year, BNY Mellon head chef John Grabecki was named Great Sausage Roll Off Champion for his rabbit sausage roll with black pudding, rabbit leg loin, maple syrup and Bayonne ham served with rabbit liver parfait, offal crumb and powdered potato.

Speaking at last year’s event, he told The Publican’s Morning Advertiser: “It is great to see how popular these competitions are becoming and it is fantastic to see such a wide range of creations from the chefs.”

Second place in 2015 went to Jill Winstone of the Park Tavern, Chichester, Sussex for her ‘classic’ pub sausage roll.
