The search is under way to find the best pub company operators and The Morning Advertiser is gearing up for the biggest and most rigorous awards in the sector.

The Publican Awards are the stand-out event in the pub trade calendar and celebrate excellence throughout the many and varied forms of pub companies that make up the industry.

Building on this year’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the organiser of the awards, The Morning Advertiser (MA), is hard at work to ensure next year’s event is bigger and better than ever.

Next year sees the introduction of new food categories, creating three more chances for success in the value, mainstream and premium categories, giving pubcos a level playing field to mark their businesses against the rest.

Ed Bedington, editor of MA, said: “These awards really are the pinnacle of success in the pub company sector and it’s a real honour to be organising them, now into their 26th year.

“They were established to champion excellence and promote the raising of standards throughout the industry, and I’m delighted to maintain that tradition going forward.

“The awards are, without doubt, the most rigorous in this sector and see finalists undergo a level of scrutiny second to none.

“Entering this competition is not easy, we understand that, but the rewards are manifold, from the discipline of initial entry, which forces companies to take a long hard look at their businesses, through to the auditing and scrutiny those shortlisted companies undergo – it’s something of an MOT for your business.

“Last year saw a record level of entries into the competition, which was great to see as we celebrated our 25th anniversary, and that’s something we’re looking to build on for this year as well.

“The night of the awards itself is the stand-out date in the industry calendar and a great night of celebration, networking and, most importantly, fun. We are in the hospitality industry, after all!

“We’ll once again be hosting the event at Battersea Evolution on Tuesday 14 March, and planning many surprises and excitement for the night itself but, in the meantime, there’s some judging to be done, so sharpen those pencils and start getting those entries in.”

And for those entering, it’s a great opportunity to earn recognition and reward the hard work of your teams.

Suzanne Smith, head of licensee recruitment and people development of Admiral, which won the best large tenanted and leased company title this year, said: “Winning the award has been hugely significant to the team here at Admiral Taverns.

“Judging is notoriously rigorous and comprehensive and the award is therefore a significant testament to the strength of Admiral Taverns today. We believe passionately in the tenanted and leased model, and have worked hard to build strong and lasting relationships with our licensees.

“To have our approach commended at these industry-leading awards and supported by the independent research incorporated into the judging process in the form of the MCA Tenant Track, is a tremendous accolade to the hard work and passion of our team and celebrates the fantastic community pubs across our estate and the dedicated licensees who run them.”
