The Alexandra, Wimbledon, announced its initiative on social media and was met with a resounding response from admiring members of the public.
The pub said that despite being fully booked at Christmas, it could feed the lonely because it had a spare kitchen and dining room.
However, it responded to cries that more pubs should follow suit by reminding the public that it was simply not feasibly for every pub to do so.
It tweeted: “Please no “why doesn’t my pub do this?”, it’s not fair. Two kitchens, two chef teams at the Alex. One is spare, hence we can make this offer.
“Most pubs/restaurants simply can’t do what we’re doing, so please don’t assume that they don’t care. We’d be gutted if our gesture led to that.”
Last year, Leicester pub the Bridle Lane Tavern made the headlines when it served free Christmas meals to approximately 300 homeless people.
