JD Wetherspoon (JDW) has been ranked the highest on a YouGov BrandIndex poll as the best operator of pubs or fast-food chains in the UK.  

The pub giant beat off stiff competition from Greggs, Nando’s, Costa Coffee and PizzaExpress.

Brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s buzz score, which rates businesses on the percentage of people who said they heard good news versus bad news about a brand.

Being the leading chain is fantastic

JDW spokesman Eddie Gershon lauded the accolade and the fact the chain came out above other high street brands.

He said: “It is fantastic that JD Wetherspoon is ranked as the leading chain in the YouGov BrandIndex in its sector.

“Our staff in our pubs and at head office continue to work extremely hard to offer our pub customers the best range of food and drink, served to the highest standards in wonderful looking pubs across the UK.”

A great honour

He added: “There are hundreds of pub and restaurant groups in the UK so to be named as the leading one is a great honour.”

In July last year, a JD Wetherspoon airport pub was named as the best in the world​ at the Food & Beverage awards in Geneva.

The Windmill, which opened at Stansted Airport in March 2015, won the title ‘Airport bar of the year’ at the awards, organised by the Moodie Davitt Report​ and the Foodie Report​.
