Pub giant JD Wetherspoon (JDW) has bought the George pub in Croydon for £4m.

A JDW spokesperson couldn’t comment specifically on the deal, but confirmed the sale and the amount.

JDW announced in May it would dispose of 33 pubs, with a large portion of the sales in London and the south.

Following this announcement, the pub group appointed property agents CBRE and Savills to sell five more of its properties.

The move meant the large managed pub operator had 26 pubs on the market.

Package exchange

In the same month, Stonegate exchanged on a package of 10 JDW pubs, including sites in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire; North Finchley, north London; Torquay, Devon; Berwick, Northumberland; Walton-on-Thames, Surrey; Banbury, Oxfordshire; Cheadle Hulme, Manchester; Hull; Reading, Berkshire; and Newquay, Cornwall.

Earlier this year (February), JDW announced it will show calorie information on its menus and website for the first time.

JDW boss Tim Martin emphasised the importance of consumers being aware of what they are eating and drinking.
