John Smith's Great British Pub Award winners have spoken to The Morning Advertiser on what their awards mean to them, and their pub.

Before this year's winners of the John Smith's Great British Pub Awards celebrated into the early morning, a selection spoke to The Morning Advertiser​ about how it felt taking their individual titles.

Glen Duckett, licensee of the Eagle and Child, Ramsbottom, was clearly overwhelmed by winning both the Partnership Pub of the Year, as well as taking the title of John Smith's Great British Pub of the Year 2017.

An emotional Duckett said: "I was sat there drinking a glass of wine and chilling out, then we won best pub, which was great - it was unbelievable".

'Absolutely ecstatic'

Licensee of the Roebuck in Laughton, East Sussex, Tony Leonard, said he was he was "absolutely ecstatic" after taking the title of best Freehouse of the Year 2017.

"It's so wonderful for us, for our team, for our village to be crowned best Freehouse in the UK. It's just the greatest feeling".

Paul Eastwood, licensee of the Famous Three Kings, Fulham, London, said: "Two years in a row - it feels absolutely fantastic. The second year, it was meant to be impossible".
