From being the oldest pub in the village, to having a ghost, or having royalty over for tea, every pub has a story – some of which they appear to share with many others.

The oldest pub

As everyone knows, pubs have been around for aeons. But where was the very first pub and who owned it? And what came first – the pub or the pint?

2. The smallest

As the rise of micropubs means copious amounts of tiny boozers popping up over the nation – the competition for the smallest pub is now bigger than ever.

3. We have a ghost

A pub is not pub without at least one ghost, right? It's usually a widow or a murdered poet of some kind...

4. Longest bar

Some may say publicans who boast about the size of their bar could be compensating for something else.

5. The original Red Lion, Fox & Hounds and Royal Oak

Since records began, there has always been a Red Lion, Fox & Hounds and Royal Oak. There has also been hoards of publicans claiming theirs was the original.

6. A royal stayed here

From the current Royal family, from all the way to the Tudors and beyond. It seems like they've all stayed several times, in several different pubs, throughout their journeys – if publicans are to be believed.

7. Celebrity hangout

Pubs are the choice among celebrities and their friends to hang out, kick back, and get away from it all. Every pub has a celebrity regular, don't you know? Like a sports team's mascot.

8. Screen star

Many a pub has featured in blockbuster films, soap operas, music videos and even been in the background of car insurance adverts. Any publicity is good publicity! (pun intended)

9. It was the start of a pop star’s career

Many a pop star started their international career at a local boozer, including Beyoncé, apparently. This is a video of her first gig, and pint of Guinness, in a pub... (apparently).
