West Berkshire Brewery (WBB) has launched a quality cellaring scheme to help educate licensees and bar managers in the importance of keeping and serving cask and keg beer in perfect condition

As part of a new partnership with Day One Training, WBB will offer the scheme to permanent stockists of their beers, with a view to extend to other customers in the future.

The one-day course will include topics such as: line cleaning, the workings of a cellar, glass care, dispense and product presentation. After successful completion of the course, publicans will be awarded the recognised industry BIIAB Award in Beer and Cellar Quality (ABCQ) certificate.

Excellence in cellar management

The training will be carried out by Day Harvey from Day One Training who has worked with companies such as Heineken, Adnams and Cask Marque.

Speaking about the programme Harvey said: “At Day One Training we offer accredited and bespoke training for pubs, bars and various other establishments with a view to provide you with the knowledge for excellence in cellar management and beer dispense. It’s more important than ever that customers receive a perfect pint at the bar.’’

Passionate about cask ale

WBB’s marketing manager Clare Candy added: “At West Berkshire Brewery we are passionate about all types of beer and have a special love for cask ale which remains at the heart of our business. It is our belief that a good pint of cask ale can rival any beer or style across the world, which is why we are proud to be launching this initiative.

“We want our customers to be drinking a cask beer that is in perfect condition every time and believe that education across the industry is the key.”

Having moved into their new premises in October, WBB will be hosting the training on-site at Yattendon, near Reading, in Berkshire. Attendees will be able to take a tour of the new new state-of-the-art brewery and packaging line, as well as enjoying a range of WBB beers and lunch in their taproom.
