Investigation: the Insolvency Service says the licensees used eight different company names
Robinsons Brewery has said it will be having discussions with two of its licensees after it was revealed they were disqualified from running business as limited companies after using insolvency laws to avoid paying debts.

Coard Hulse and Philip Roy Dawson – both from Wilmslow – previously ran the lease of the Saracen's Head in Lymm, Cheshire, between 2006 and 2016.

They were banned from 27 February 2018 from acting as directors of any company, directly or indirectly becoming involved in the promotion, formation and management of a limited company until February 2025.

However, The Morning Advertiser has discovered the pair are now running the King William pub in Wilmslow, Cheshire, a leased pub from Robinsons Brewery. As yet, there’s no information as to how they are running the pub or indication as to whether it is as a limited company.

New companies registered

According to the Insolvency Service, during a 10-year period, eight different companies were registered at the Saracen’s Head and when one of them became insolvent, the pair would register a new company and carry on running the pub.

As the new company did not take on the previous company’s debts it meant that Hulse and Dawson would avoid paying the creditors, the Insolvency Service said.

Creditors lost out on an estimated total of £335,000, it claimed.

Matter to be discussed

A spokeswoman for Robinsons Brewery said: “We confirm that the licensees are currently operating one of our properties on a short-term agreement and we will be discussing this matter with our licensees.”

Despite repeated attempts to contact the licensees, they have been unavailable for comment.

The investigation by the Insolvency Service revealed the eight companies were placed into liquidation between August 2008 and October 2016.

The company names included D&H Pub Limited, Rockstone Limited, Inntreprenur Cheshire, Eastermoor Selva Cheshire, Exonet Solutions Tuco Inn and Alpha Tauri Limited.
