A marathon guide for anyone whose idea of participating is applauding runners of the 26.2-mile route from a sunny pub garden or occasionally shouting encouragement between gulps of beer.

The 2018 London Marathon on Sunday 21 April is one of the most high-profile foot races on the planet – when elite athletes pound pavements alongside amateur runners, charity fundraisers and the not-so occasional sight of someone sweating buckets for a worthy cause in a gorilla costume.

The course, which takes in the majority of London’s iconic landmarks is also peppered with more than 80 pubs from which you can watch both elite and amateur passers by.

As reported by The Morning Advertiser, two senior faces from Greene King will be among more than 50,000 people donning their running shoes this weekend to take part in the Virgin Money London Marathon.

Starting in Blackheath, south-east London, the route takes runners through Woolwich before turning west past the Cutty Sark in Greenwich and crossing the River Thames at Tower Bridge.

The route then meanders through the Isle of Dogs, past Canary Wharf, before the home stretch from London Bridge, along the Embankment to Parliament Square, Birdcage Walk, and finishes in front of Buckingham Palace on the Mall – in one of the most iconic finales to any athletic event.
