World Cup weekend: the second weekend of Russia 2018 sees seven World Cup fixtures broadcast over two days
English national sides in action at home and abroad have a chance to claim a hat-trick of international victories amid a packed sporting schedule this weekend.

World Cup 2018

Belgium v Tunisia – World Cup Group G – Saturday 23 June – BBC from 1pm

In the other side of England’s group, a star-studded Belgium side look to all-but secure a last-16 berth against the opposition in the Three Lions’ opener, Tunisia, who will be eliminated if they lose.

South Korea v Mexico – World Cup Group F – Saturday 23 June – ITV from 4pm

After arguably the upset of the opening round of fixtures against defending champions Germany, Mexico look to continue their blistering start and secure safe passage to the last 16.

Germany v Sweden – World Cup Group F – Saturday 23 June – ITV from 7pm

The decision to leave Manchester City’s Leroy Sane at home looks all the more bizarre after a shock defeat to Mexico in their opener. Germany face Sweden in a must-win clash if they’re to hold on to hope of defending their world title.

England v Panama – World Cup Group G – Sunday 24 June – BBC from 1pm

Gareth Southgate’s side can all-but secure qualification to the last-16 if they can topple World Cup debutants Panama.

Japan v Senegal – World Cup Group H – Sunday 24 June – BBC from 4pm

The surprise joint-leaders of Group H clash after impressive opening round upsets. One of these is likely to meet England in the last-16 stage of the competition.

Poland v Colombia – World Cup Group H – Sunday 24 June – ITV from 7pm

Both tipped as dark horses to go deep into the tournament, Poland and Columbia look to rescue their World Cup campaigns after stalling in their opening fixtures.

International rugby union

New Zealand v France - International rugby union – Saturday 23 June - Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action from 8am (Kick-off at 8.35am)

After clinching the three-part series with a 26-12 win in Wellington last weekend in a game marred by a red card for France’s Benjamin Fall, Steve Hansen’s All Blacks will chase a series shutout this weekend in Dunedin.

Australia v Ireland – International rugby union – Saturday 23 June – Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action from 10.45am (Kick off at 11am)

Six Nations champions Ireland have rung the changes ahead of a decisive third test against Australia in Sydney following a 26-21 win in Melbourne last weekend which left their test series poised at one win apiece.

South Africa v England – International rugby union – Saturday 23 June – Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action from 3pm (Kick off at 4.05pm)         

Fly-half Danny Cipriani is poised to make his first test start for England since 2008 as Eddie Jones’ side look to avoid a series whitewash in South Africa, and an unthinkable sixth test defeat on the bounce.          

 

Formula One French Grand Prix weekend

Qualifying – Saturday 23 June – Sky Sports F1 from 3pm Race – Sunday 24 June – Sky Sports F1 from 3.10pm

In a race that’s been delayed to avoid clashing with England’s World Cup fixture against Panama, Lewis Hamilton chases his first ever French Grand Prix win as the Formula One world championship returns to France for the first time since 2008.

Fever-tree Championships 

Saturday 23 June - BBC Two from 1pmSunday 24 June – BBC Two from 2.30pm

The traditional prologue to the Wimbledon fortnight at Queen’s Club saw Andy Murray make a long awaited comeback from injury against Australia’s Nick Kyrigos.

While the two-time Wimbledon champion couldn’t make it a winning return, former Grand Slam winners Novak Djokovic and Marin Cilic are still on course to appear this weekend.

England v Australia – ODI Series – Sunday 24 June – Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Cricket from 10.30am

After notching their second-highest ever one-day run chase in a six wicket win against Australia to establish a 4-0 lead in this summer’s ODI series, the hosts look to secure a series whitewash at Old Trafford, Manchester.
