West Country-based operator Bramley Bars has added a third site to its operations list with the acquisition of a whimsical village pub.

The Lord Poulett Arms in Hinton St George, Somerset, was bought for an undisclosed fee by Bramley Bars.

The pub operator runs another two pubs in the region: the Beckford Arms, Fonthill Gifford, near Tisbury, Wiltshire; and the Talbot Inn in Mells, Somerset.

Owners Dan Brod, Charlie Luxton and Matt Greenlees said they hoped the pub’s new chapter would see it maintain its local charm.

The pubco said in a statement: “We take on pubs with rooms that we love and work hard to make them even better."

'First and foremost a village pub'

It continued: “This is first and foremost a village pub and that’s what it will remain while attracting visitors from further afield,” they said.

The Lord Poulett Arms changed hands after previous owners Stephen and Michelle Hill, who managed the pub together for 15 years, made the decision to retire and move abroad.

However, despite being under new ownership, the pub will operate using the same management and staff.

Christie & Co director Nick Calfe, who handled the sale, said there was a strong demand in the south-west for high-quality pubs, “particularly those that are highly recognised and well-invested, such as the Lord Poulett”.

The pub was named in The Sunday Times top 100 restaurants list last year and has been included in the Good Eating Guide numerous times, with a focus on dining.
