'Huge blow': the Black Lion in Anglesey will close for the next few week after a car crashed into it
The Black Lion pub in Llanfaethlu, near Holyhead in Anglesey, north Wales, will close for the ‘next few weeks’ after a car crashed into the Grade II-listed building’s façade.

The 18th century Black Lion pub has been left with a gaping hole in its front after car crashed into it just before 3am on Wednesday 11 July.

The Welsh Ambulance service took an elderly man with head injuries to Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital following the incident.

The pub announced the closure on its Facebook page with the message: “A heartfelt thank you for all your good wishes and messages over the past couple of days from all of us at the 'Black'.

“I have just spoken to the family of the driver. Unfortunately, he is very unwell with pneumonia and other injuries.

“Once again myself and Leigh, Donna our manager and all the other staff here wish him a speedy recovery.”

'Huge blow'

Pub manager Donna Roberts told ITV TV: "We’re absolutely gutted. It’s left a lot of mess.

“It’s a huge blow because it’s happened right at the start of the summer holiday season.

“There have been accidents on the corner of the road before. He has gone right through a wall outside and then through the wall of the pub. It must have been a huge impact.

“We had people staying upstairs and they were woken up by the sound of a loud smash. We had a family from Manchester in one room and a couple from Conwy in the other.

“We can’t do anything now until the insurers have been. We have lost a lot of money, but what can we do?

“We would like to thank everybody for their support, which has been fantastic, and we hope to reopen as soon as possible.”
