Pubco Greene King received an award for its recruiting process at this year’s UK Social Mobility Awards.

The company’s Get Into Hospitality programme works in partnership with The Prince’s Trust and won Recruitment Programme of the Year. It focuses on supporting individuals from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds.

Since it launched in 2016, the partnership with The Prince’s Trust has so far helped almost 240 young people from typically disadvantaged backgrounds.

This was the second year of the awards, which were organised by London-based young people’s charity Making the Leap. The awards celebrate the achievements and innovations of businesses that contribute to social mobility.

Get Into Hospitality has also been shortlisted by The Prince’s Trust at its Partnership Awards.

Rooney Anand, chief executive officer for the pubco, said: “Pubs play an important role in the heart of a community and there is great scope for pubs to support disadvantaged and unrepresented people within their local area.

“Our work with The Prince’s Trust through our Get Into Hospitality programme aims to support this, helping provide unemployed young people with the confidence and skills to move into the workplace and our apprenticeship scheme, and then, in turn, continue developing their career with us.”

The award was announced at a gala dinner held at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square on 18 October 2018.
