A pub has announced it is searching for a taster for its pigs in blankets and has offered £500 as payment for taking the 'taste test'.

When December rolls around, Christmas food becomes high on the list of things we can’t stop thinking about.

Unsurprisingly, and on top of that list, are the delectable pigs in blankets, which are synonymous with the festive period.

The Oust House pub in Manchester is giving one lucky punter £500 to pig out this Christmas through different variations of the festive favourite in an exclusive tasting session.

In a post on Facebook, the pub told its fan base: “We’re searching for one Mancunian resident to attend the ultimate Christmas taste test for this year’s star of the show – pigs in blankets – and give us some honest feedback to help us perfect our Christmas nibbles menu.”

Tasty new twists

The Oast House development chef Mark York said he wants to see if people like his “tasty new twists” on the Christmas classic.

He said: “Pigs in blankets are the talk of the town this Christmas and are undoubtedly the trending food item of the season.

“That said, the pressure is on to ensure we’re serving up the best pigs in blankets and Christmas nibbles in the city.”

According to York, the candidate will be chosen not on skills or qualifications, but on their funniest Christmas story.

Funny stories

“The applicant with the story that makes us laugh or cry the most will be given the chance to join us at the tasting session,” York added.

The post was soon inundated with replies from hopeful candidates sharing their suitability for the role and posting their funny stories.

One applicant said: "Imagine turning up to your future wife's family Christmas dinner after being told it was fancy dress – I turned up dress like a fat Santa and not one single other person was dressed up."
