The Beer Company has released a craft beer in an effort to raise awareness about the increasing threats to sea turtles.

The Nottingham-based brewery has designed and created a bespoke lager, aptly named Turtle Beer, complete with turtle branding to help fund the Project Biodiversity in Cape Verde, just off the north-west coast of Africa.

Moved by their efforts while on holiday last year, The Beer Company's director Joanne Taylor set out to work brewing the "perfect beer" to help spread the word about the threats to sea turtles and other wildlife across the nation.

"After seeing the amazing work that Project Biodiversity carries out first hand, it's a real privilege to be able to use my passion for craft beer to help do a little bit towards the preservation of these incredible creatures," Taylor exclaimed.

With Cape Verde the third most important nesting site for the endangered Loggerhead sea turtle, Taylor hopes the lager and pale ale will help to raise awareness about poaching, unregulated coastal development and marine pollution.

Project Biodiversity's executive director Berta Renom, told of her delight upon collaborating with the The Beer Company.

"We've definitely seen progress over the past four years, but Cape Verde's increasing popularity as a destination for tourists means a continuing impact on the island's wildlife and ecosystems," said Renom.

"This collaboration is an excellent opportunity to help raise awareness about the importance of protecting these species, and inspiring visitors to take action to reduce their impact, not only during their time on the island, but long after they leave."

The craft beer (3.8% ABV) can be bought on Amazon and eBay for £2.33 per can, with 10p from each sale going directly to Project Biodiversity.
