Pub power: visitors to the Pint & Poppy and Embankment will be able to recharge their electric cars at the pubs
Brewer and pub operator Castle Rock is buzzing to announce it has installed electric vehicle chargers at two of its pubs in partnership with electric vehicle charge point operator, Alfa Power.

The Poppy & Pint and Embankment pubs in Nottingham are the first beneficiaries of a new partnership that will ensure designated drivers don't run out of juice.

While the Poppy & Pint’s 22kw charger will repower a car over a few hours – ideal for a slightly longer stint in the pub – the Embankment pub’s 70kw charger, one of only a handful in the country, is one of the region’s fastest charge points – and bad news for slow drinkers.

The pubs become the latest to adopt electric car charging points after Marston’s revealed in November 2018 that it had entered into a partnership with rapid charging network operator Engenie to install 400 chargers across the UK.

Moreover, in August 2018, Fuller’s revealed that it had connected with Pod Point in a three-year deal to install car charge points at 10 pubs across London and the south-east.

Service and social responsibility

“We are delighted to have installed two new chargers in Nottingham and hope the additional infrastructure will help bolster the thriving e-mobility community within the Go Ultra Low city,” Alfa Power’s business development director Zuber Patel explained.

"We are also pleased to have partnered with Castle Rock on this venture, and we are happy to be working with such a forward-thinking organisation, who are keen to contribute toward both corporate social responsibility while also providing an additional service to the people of Nottingham”.

Go-to charge points

Castle Rock operations director Vicki Saxby added: “We have been working to reduce our ecological footprint for many years now through our green accreditation with Investors in the Environment, and recently received the sustainability award from Visit Nottingham’s Stars Awards.

“The addition of charging facilities to the Embankment and the Poppy & Pint is a commitment to a collective future where electric vehicles are the norm.

“We want our pubs to be the go-to places for car charging, where customers can sit back and relax, grab a bite to eat or gear up with a coffee while they charge up.

“The charging facility at the Embankment on Trent Bridge is the most rapid in Nottingham. It’s great to be able to offer a speedy service on such a vital transport route in and out of the city.”
